Cloud Computing Solves Network Downtime and Streamlines Operations for Minneapolis Small Business
Solution
J.T. Miller Company began to evaluate its IT expenses, looking at cost-per-year over the past two or three server cycles and comparing vendors. “The price seemed to come out about the same,” Daniel said. “I know hardware prices are coming down, but just the hassle of having to transfer data and everything else, it just made sense to go to the hosted solution that Solbrekk offers.”
Daniel also appreciated the fact that Solbrekk’s Cloud Computing solution would allow them to update to the latest version of Microsoft Office without having to re-license everybody. “Adding and removing users as employee needs adjust or shift was another factor,” Daniel added. He liked the ability to simply call to add a new feature, and with J.T. Miller Company anticipating a move in the near future, hosted servers seemed to make the most sense for their business.
While the expense will be a little higher for J.T. Miller Company in the years when they’re not purchasing hardware, over the course of a five-year time period, Solbrekk’s Cloud Computing will end up costing the same or even less than other options.
“And the real savings for us is just in the employee time,” Daniel said. “We no longer have to waste time dealing with backup and making sure it’s running properly and dealing with other update-type issues.” That, alongside solving the network down-time issues, has made a real difference in productivity and profit for J.T. Miller Company.
Benefits & Results
With Solbrekk’s Cloud Computing, frustrating connection and backup issues are no longer a problem. “If something comes up, a lot of times we can still take care of it, but it’s just a phone call away. And Solbrekk has always been very helpful getting the issue resolved quickly,” Daniel said. “We have used the help desk. They’ve been very responsive. It’s been nice to just call.”
The 5-10 hours a week that Daniel used to spend dealing with IT issues can now be spent on the business of running a quality company. “It lets me focus more on the business and marketing initiatives we’re working on.”
Cloud Computing also made J.T. Miller Company’s move to a new location run smoothly. “We had a Solbrekk tech come out and set up our network switches, tie into our internet connection here,” Daniel said. “I think it took him a day, maybe half a day, to get things set up and our network was up and running. Much easier than trying to move the hardware and make sure it’s all connected and running properly on the network.”
“I would recommend it wholeheartedly,” Daniel said. “We’ve loved the Cloud Computing.”
